Eight Things 2007.12.09 21:09

The redoubtable Jacek compels me to make this exception to my usual taciturnity. There are rules. You might find them elsewhere in the audit chain of backlinks.

  1. I don't have a blog. And if I did, I wouldn't call it that. Weblog is a far better word. I think the coiners of this neologism have done us a great disservice. If you're going to invent a new word, at least make it aesthetically pleasing! But in any event, this is neither a blog nor a weblog. It is closer to a scrapbook. Even "journal" is too grandiose. And, seeing as how I don't have a blog, I thought I would be proof against being picked for this "eight things" brouhaha.
  2. I love ferrets. So did Queen Victoria. And my home in SL is in Caledon, the neo-victorian / steampunk estate. Coincidence? Or evidence of some deeper conspiracy?
  3. I took piano lessons beginning when I was ten at my parents' insistence. I didn't want to play piano. I still don't. I have two violins, a banjo, three mandolins (one electric), two electric guitars, two electric basses, and deger pipes (electronic bagpipes). I've played in industrial bands but more recently in old-time mountain music string bands. I'm not very good at it, but it's fun.
  4. Alcohol is my anti-drug. This month's choices are Chartreuse V.E.P. and a great bourbon from Corner Creek, Kentucky.
  5. I will go to great lengths to avoid having direct sunlight on my skin. Large amounts of indirect sunlight also worry me. This can be a problem in deserts. I love deserts. I am conflicted.
  6. I know morse code.
  7. Baths are one of the truly great things about being alive.
  8. I refrain from writing here as I expect, based on past experience, that no matter what I write it will in the future seem unfortunate, puerile, embarassingly naive (as opposed to charmingly naive), pointless, or at best eminently ignorable. I include this regrettable paragraph in that assessment.

I choose you: Alexandra David-Neel, Orville Gibson, Violet Firth, Nikola Tesla, Jack Parsons, Jane Austen, Yang Ch'eng-fu, Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff.
